Priming the Oil Pump After an Oil Change

Ed Hughes
Duration:   1 mins

Description

An often overlooked part of an oil change is to spin the engine gently on the starter with the coil disconnected, allowing fresh oil to circulate and ensure no damage through lack of lubrication is done on start-up.

Title says electric fuel pump priming but the video is about circulating oil.

A nice touch at the end of this is to just take the wire off the coil, preferably one of the 12 volt wires, just to get in and turn the engine over, so it won't stop cause there's no wire on the coil. And just turn the engine over on the starter until the oil light goes out. And that not only tells you that the system is now primed with the new oil, but it also primes everything and gets everything full of oil, just with the starter gently turning it rather than explosions in the cylinders pounding everything together before it's quite ready.
