Learning to create a weld for your classic car can help you avoid a very pricy service charge and a long holdover in the auto shop. Instead of relying on someone else to do the job, we’re going to teach you how to MIG weld so you can complete a basic repair on your classic car in your own garage. It simply takes practice, patience and maybe an expert guide.

How does the course work?

With each new class in this course on how to MIG weld, Practical Classics editor Danny Hopkins and welding expert Ben Field will demonstrate another step in the process for becoming a capable welder. Follow along as Ben teaches you the essentials of MIG welding, from basic tips for initial preparation to expert techniques for troubleshooting a difficult weld.

What will you learn?

During this five-step course, Danny and Ben are going to teach you about and show you how to MIG weld, teaching how to practice a number of methods and skills necessary for your very first real-life weld. Some of the essentials you’ll learn along the way include:

  • Setting the wire and gas
  • A basic guide on how to MIG weld
  • Putting theory into practice
  • TIG welding
  • Deciding which type of weld to use where

Like with all courses from Practical Classics, we want to teach you something you didn’t already know. If there are parts of this course that you’ve mastered before you came to us, never hesitate to jump ahead in the program. However, if this is your first time setting up to complete a weld, you’re better off sitting tight and watching from the start. Either way, you get to choose what you want to learn. All you have to do is click your desired topic and get on with it!

Working through the course
